🌊 SUP: Tips to Enjoy It Safely

SUP (Stand Up Paddle). A little escape on the water – freedom, calmness, and the perfect full-body workout. But to really enjoy it, there are a few things you need to know

☀️ Check the weather

The best day for SUP is when the sea is calm and there’s no wind. If you’re a beginner, avoid windy days – it makes paddling harder and can drift you away.

💨 If the wind picks up

No stress!

Drop down to your knees for extra stability.

Paddle short, steady strokes on the side that helps keep your course.

Don’t fight the wind directly – it’s easier to paddle at an angle.

If you get tired, sit or lie on your board and paddle back with your hands.

🏄 Paddle technique

Top hand on the handle, bottom hand on the shaft.

Place the paddle vertically in the water, in front of you.

Pull back close to the board until your feet.

Engage your core and body – not just your arms.

Switch sides to keep moving straight.

🛶 Types of SUP boards

Each board has its purpose:

All Around: stable and beginner-friendly, perfect for calm waters.

Touring: longer and faster, great for exploring.

Race: narrow and speedy, for advanced riders.

Wave: short and playful, for surfing waves.

⚡ Fun fact: in windy conditions you’ll usually see experienced paddlers with race or touring boards. If you’re just starting out, keep it for those glassy calm days.
